So I just really wanted to talk about Psy's new song Gangnam Style. When I saw the first teaser for this song I was already addicted to it. This song is just amazing from start to finish this song is amazing. The chorus is energetic and exciting and does a great job at keeping peoples attention.
Im not sure what this song actually means, I haven't really found a channel on Youtube that has made a sub of this song.
The video is to me just a classic Psy video, full of energy and over the top. I wasnt really sure why Psy was in a horse stall but thats besides the point.
So I have noticed that Psy’s song Gangnam Style has gotten a
lot of attention in North America. I am very shocked that it is so popular but
I am very happy about it. Psyis
an
amazing artist and I am happy that he is finally getting the recognition
that he
deserves. One thing that im not really sure that I like about the media
coverage about him is that most media outlets are calling him an
underground Korean artist; and I don’t believe that’s true. Psy is not
an underground
artist he is signed to YG Entertainment and their apart of the big 3 in
Korea
for labels. Psy is nothing but underground, im pretty sure everyone in
Korea
for the most part knows who he is. The only difference is that he is not
that
popular.
Psy hasn’t released an album in 2 years, which might have diminished
his notability in Korea but he is definitely not an underground artist. Im not
that upset about the media calling him an underground artist because the US doesn’t
really know much about Korean music and how Entertainment agencies work and
stuff. Im just happy that Psy is getting lots of attention. I hope that YG benefits
greatly from Psy’ s popularity. And I hope that they do a better job at
promoting Psy by having him release an album at least once a year.
So today I wanted to celebrate the fact that I have been listening to K-pop for 1 year and a month. I am really excited about this fact. I went from not liking "foreign" music to having it be my main go-to when it comes to music.
Today I wanted to talk about YG Family. As you know my blogger name is YGrandom and that is because I am a huge YG fan. YG is really known as a hip-hop type label that doesn't follow the status quo. Recently YG has moved away from their hip-hop roots to more electro music. They used to have artists like 1TYM, Lexy, SWI.T, Jinusean, and others who were all about hip-hop and R&B. But know YG has different artists with a somewhat different feel to them.But even with all the changes in YG this remains true, YG is and will always be trendsetters in K-Pop
2NE1 was the group that got me into K-pop because of their style. I think they are one of the few k-pop groups that have swag. Probably the main reason why 2NE1 is so cool is because of Minzy and CL, because they rap and they can sing. I think Minzy even has the best vocals of the group. While most people highlight Park Bom for her singing I think that Minzy is sometimes ignored for her singing because her dancing is so good. The video that really showed Minzy's talent is when she preformed Taeyang's song 'Only Look at Me', her voice was very strong and soulful.
CL has swag because shes the baddest female. She is just seems so confident and she is a great leader. CL rocks and I really want her to do either a solo project or a duo project with Minzy. They could do something like what GD and TOP did a few years ago.
OK so so far I have really talked about CL and Minzy and not really talked about Park Bom and Dara. I guess its because Bom and Dara are older and CL and Minzy are young. Dara is older but she still has a very young face, and she is considered 'fresh'. Im not totally sure why Dara is called the 'fresh' member, because im not sure what fresh actually means. Dara's soft vocals mesh very well with the other vocals of 2NE1. Bom I think is the only 2NE1 member who seems somewhat similar to the stereotypical K-pop girl group member. I say this because she wears very short dressed and acts girly. The thing that I really like about Bom is that she doesn't overdo it like other girl groups do. Bom is girly but she isnt really the ageyo type of girly which is good.2NE1 has the best mesh of talent when it comes to girl groups and because of that I think that they are the best.
Now moving on to other YG artists, there is Big Bang. Now Big Bang has gone through a pretty extreme change since their debut. They went from really being a hip hop and R&B only group to an electro-pop group with a hip hop feel. Im not totally sure how I feel about their change. I love Big Bang I think that they are the most talented guy group in K-pop because they can pretty much do it all. While I am sad that Big Bang has changed from a hip-hop group they still make awesome music. Recently with they Alive album they went through a lot of change in their appearance. Taeyang got a tattoo. TOP got blue hair. GD got seaweed type hair on one side of his head. Seungri and Daesung didnt really go through any huge transformations. I didn't like GD's hair during the alive promotions because it just looked really weird to me so I hope that it is changed for their promotions for their new single Monster.
Gummy is another YG artist that I think is great. I think that Mr YG doesn't do enough to really promote Gummy. She has a lot of talent her voice is very very good. The song that really got me to be a fan of hers was her song 'Love Recipe'. I think that YG could make more money off Gummy if they would just promote her more when she releases songs.
Psy, Se7en and Tablo are the last of the current YG artists. Psy is a really energetic and crazy performer and that's why I like him. Psy just really lets loose on stage and makes songs that you can jump up and down to. Se7en is the only YG artist that I am not very big on. I think he is talented but he just hasn't made a song that made me wanna play it over and over again. I do think that YG promotes Se7en well but I do think that he has lost some of his popularity over the years. Tablo is very new to YG and he already has a fan base. He was in a group before YG so people know who he is and he is already a talented artist. Tablo is a rapper and he really keeps the hip-hop feel with YG.
So today I will talk about the music I was listening to. So yesterday after I made my first post I searched Google for the best female rappers in K-Pop. I did this because CL (of 2NE1) is my favorite and I wanted to see if there were other girl groups that had rappers. That’s when I came across Brown Eyed Girls. I think they are mainly famous for their song Abracadabra (released in 2009). I have to say this song is my favorite of their songs.
They are actually pretty cool and their rapper is really good too. Im not sure who is the better rapper CL or Miryo. Here is a video of Miryo (from Brown Eyed Girls).
CL has a lot of English in her raps and they are not very long so it is easier to understand. Miryo almost always raps in all Korean and they are longer. I think the difference between her and CL is that Miryo seems to really love rapping and that is why she does it. It seems like CL just raps because she is good at it. But I think that it is clear that their raps sound cool and it makes 2NE1 and Brown Eyed Girls more versatile.
I see at lot of videos on youtube that is on female rappers in Korea. I think that I will try to listen to every rapper and write about them. In the mean time watch this.

Ok so this is my first blog post.So I think I will talk about K-Pop. At this moment in my life I am totally obsessed with K-Pop. More specifically artists from YG Entertainment (As you can see I put YG in my name).
I started listening to K-Pop when BoA made the song Eat You Up. I think that was around 2008. Since 2008 I have been listining to a few BoA songs and that was it.
That is until now because now I am listining to everything. I listen to 2NE1, Big Bang (Including the solo work of all the members), Se7en, BoA, Girl Generation (SNSD), f(x), Super Junior, and 2PM as well as others. If you notice my list includes 3 YG and 4 from SM and 1 from JYP. Even though I listen to more SM artists I like more YG songs. I am obsessed with anything related to Big Bang and 2NE1 right now.
In future posts I will go in depth with my love for K-Pop. You can look forward to seeing posts about individuals (ex. TOP, Park Bom, G-Dragon).
